Sarah Mary Taylor

(1916-2000) Yazoo City, MS

Sarah Mary Taylor combined her wonderful sense of color and rhythm with a new angle on traditional applique quilting, creating a body of work that has influenced many other quilters including Otesia Harper, Liza Jackson, and her own mother, Pearlie Posey. One of Taylor's "Hands" quilts was commissioned for use in the film adaptation of The Color Purple. Her work is found in many private and museum collections.
