JANET KIGUSIUQ

(1926-2005) Baker Lake, Nunavut (Canada)

Eldest daughter of Inuit artistic matriarch Jessie Oonark, Kigusiuq started drawing in the 60s, the beginning of a course of art-making that would change dramatically over the years. Her diverse body of work, which includes drawing, textiles, and wall hangings, is widely collected. She also worked in printmaking when her family moved to Baker Lake in 1970, contributing to the print-making collective there. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada, and many others.
