Herbert Singleton

(1945-2007) New Orleans LA

A native of Algiers, a West Bank neighborhood of New Orleans, Herbert Singleton was a master carver of bas-relief panels, free-standing sculptures, and the walking sticks which he first started making when he was 17. His work is in most major collections of American vernacular art, as well as the Collection de la Art Brut in Lausanne, Switzerland.
